Eulogy 1 - Leslie Thomas (Les) Barnes (1906-1994)

GETTING SERIOUS ABOUT HERITAGE

(Written by Warren Maloney for Facebook Site on 6 July 2020)

Sometimes it takes an obstinate (and sometimes belligerent) character to get a Council moving on preserving its Heritage.

Les Barnes was not the only reason the 1983 Brunswick Council started its Heritage Research and Register. But he certainly made us aware of what our responsibilities are! Les Barnes died 26 years ago today.

His work lives on in the many Heritage buildings that have been recognised and saved.

"Not enough", he would have yelled across the Library. And he was right!
