THE PRAYER BOOK REBELLION

(Written by Warren Maloney on 17th August 2020)

Our Ancestral Cousins have been killed in many Wars and for many Causes.

One of the more fascinating lethal disputes was the Prayer Book Rebellion of 1548-1549 where the Cornish and Devon Cousins went to Arms to prevent the English imposing their new prayer book on the Catholic families of the West Counties.

The Battles were exceedingly cruel with pitch-forks and knives against cavalry and cannons. On this day in 1459, quite a few Cousins died with about 1,000 others at the Battle of Sampford Courtenay.

The English Prayer Book was imposed.

Perhaps we could have a commemorative Annual March down The Strand.
Nah, to the Victors, go the Spoils (and the re-write of History).
