Eulogy 11 - For Gale Orford

 

MADE A LASTING DIFFERENCE

TO OUR VILLAGE

(Written for Facebook on 8th July 2017 – the 1st Anniversary of the death of Gale Orford) [1]


Just a pause to remember Gale Orford today.


We all hope to leave our Communities in a better condition and with better senses of purpose and achievement - Gale did just that.


She deserves to be thanked again.

  A SALUTE TO TIM [1]   Very sad to learn of the passing of Tim Hayes! [2]   Tim was a joy to be with, a leader in needs-based local business, and an inspiration in Community Activism!   His work on behalf of Clunes was prominent in his creation of Coloma Day (linking the gold discoveries at Coloma California with Clunes Victoria) as it re-positioned the tourism possibilities of Clunes. Eulogy 26 - 1892-1918 - A Salute to Bert & Frank Collis

 "JUST 1 of 5,301 THAT TIME" The Battle of Menin Road Ridge [1] took 5 days from 20 th to 25 th September 1917. Private Albert Edward (Bert) Collis [2] was shot in his legs the first day. They got him out and up to the 3 rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station where he died the next day. Bert was 0ne month shy of his 22 nd birthday. Bert was now a notable number – 1 of 5,301 Allied “ casualties ” in that battle. Bert had been born in the black hills, up near Brighton, Tasmania. All four of his great grandparents had been Convicts. The two generations between had worked hard to make the “Blackbrush Farm” a goer. But Bert was the 6 th of 9 children – too many for the Farm to support. He was also just 19 years when THEY declared World War I – perfect timing to snap up farm labourers in their late teens. Commentary 21 - THE PAPACY

  Not Just Religion - The Papacy has always been a World Power (Written by Warren Maloney - 24th April 1975) Of course, it does not make sense that a Head of the World's smallest Country (in size and population) should have and still does play an immensely powerful role in World Politics. It has controlled at least 2 Empires, created umpteen Royal Governments, validated hundreds of Secular Governments, been at various times the Inquisitor, the Questioner, the Supporter, the Denialist, the Justifier of countless Governmental movements. Even today the welcoming Smile or stern Presence shakes public opinion of visiting Leaders. It motivates the most extensive delivery of aid, support, and education to the World's poor and disadvantaged. The Church, it notionally commands, is a political umbrella of the Far Right to the Street Libertarians to the Mystical Regressives to the most dynamic of social & scientific researchers.
