Eulogy 15 - John Roger (Jay) Smith (1947-2019)

AULD LANG SYNE, JAY

(Eulogy written by Warren Maloney for a flotilla of paper tributes
when John Roger “Jay” Smith’s ashes were distributed on 6th June 2019) [1]

A dram of Whisky, a laugh at a story, a smile in sharing a memory or two, such is a Scot’s way of saying Goodbye.

Jay brought many a smile and added lots of laughs whenever we met.

And so, now, I figure that Robbie Burns is the best way I can say publicly thank you and goodbye to a friend.

An honest man here lies at rest,
As ever God with His image blessed:
The friend of man, the friend of truth,
The friend of age, the guide of youth:
Few hearts like his - with virtue warmed,
Few heads with knowledge so informed:
If there is another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.”

So Slainte, Jay.
